There is great depth in the leader’s writing and arranging that imbues this set with a real gravitas...a superlative example of how to create and sustain an emotionally charged mood that loosely recalls a Coltrane or Dolphy fanfare without falling into cliché...her compositional style has its own signature. — Kevin Le Gendre, Jazzwise

Language of Dreams

Inspired by Uruguayan writer Eduardo Galeano's Memory Of Fire trilogy, which explores the history of the Americas through the retelling of indigenous myths and accounts from the European colonizers, this interdisciplinary project features a book of original pieces that draw on a variety of cultural and musical traditions of the Americas as well as the talents of Ms. Melford's quintet Snowy Egret, a bi-lingual narrator, Sofia Rei, Los Angeles-based dancer/choreographer Oguri and Bay Area video artist David Szlasa.  The work will premiere on November 8 and 9, 2013 at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco.
